A FEW THINGS FROM THIS WEEK
My brilliant friend Sula, who’s one of the badass wine babes behind Women in Wine LDN, was interviewed about the impact women are having in the industry. I STAN. Three other brilliant women were also featured, so clickity-clack over there to read all about it.
This article about Bailey Richardson (an original member of team IG) quitting the ‘gram, made me think a lot about why we invest so much or ourselves in digital platforms. Though I’m trying to transition to a more controlled digital space for my thoughts and work (hi! welcome!) I still find great joy in Instagram and have the occasional flirtation with the hellscape known as Twitter dot com. For me, the key to social media is to keep it useful and joyful, i.e. get rid of all those hate-follows and celebrities. Writer Kate Leaver shares some great Instagram insight in this Twitter thread. (Spoiler alert: Dogs. Always more dogs.)
I didn’t make anything special for Thanksgiving, but I am planning to make a (much smaller) jar of these fermented chile peppers this weekend. We’re hosting a taco party with David’s family this Christmas and I feel these babies will play a starring role. ✨
I read an excerpt of Gemma Hartley’s new book, Fed Up, in The Sunday Times STYLE FUCKING SUPPLEMENT (because they love to preach to the choir…) and got even more fired up about the unpaid and emotional labour so many women do all the damn time. The article is behind a paywall (soz) but I think the book seems like it’s well worth checking out, even if you’re wearing your choir robes and reading it like a fucking hymnal. (Might I suggest gifting it to the men in your life this holiday season?)
As someone who’s been to her fair share of Ren Fests, I found great joy in these Renaissance costumes made out of packaging materials. The styling and photography totally took me to Swoon City.
I saw Highasakite on Tuesday and I’ve had the chorus to their newest single, I Call Bullshit, stuck in my head ever since. Play it when your lame friends start yawning and making excuses at your next dinner party!
I’ve been listening to the It’s Britney, Bitch podcast and furiously researching all the supplementary materials, which is taking me on one helluva journey back into my formative years. So many feelings! So much ab envy! So much love for our Queen! I still have like 15 hours of listening left so I guess you know how I’m spending the rest of my weekend. ✌🏼
