hi

I’m so glad you’re here! As a teen with a dial-up connection, one of my favourite things to do on the world wide web was receive, complete, and read surveys that my friends and I would email to each other. Later, those surveys morphed into xangas and tumblrs, my favourite of which had a clear rubric and asked people to submit a photo or q&a that revealed a lot about their values and preferences without exposing their full identity. (The Burning House project - RIP - was a great example of this, while Refinery 29’s Money Diaries is a fascinating ongoing example.)

Feeling Bright Blue is a visual exploration of my struggle to feel joy and optimism while living under the confines of capitalism during a global climate emergency. It’s literally sooo depressing/blue, so I felt it was important to conclude the exhibition with a sense of hope and a solution, of sorts. My hope is that this portrait and q&a component will help us to better understand our neighbours, reveal common pain points, and be a catalyst for us to come together to make our slice of the world a little - or a lot - better. Or, at the very least, I hope it helps someone to feel less alone.

I know some of these questions are BIG questions, so instead of getting lost in trying to give complete and comprehensive answers, I suggest instead setting your timer for four minutes and then trusting your gut as you write.

Tysm for taking part in this project. ily. 💙
